Conde Nast Traveler launches A Perfect Day in Sydney

Jason Knight • Jan 19, 2016

Venerable travel magazine and website Conde Nast Traveler ( www.cntraveler.com ) has launched the Loom Creative produced video “A Perfect Day in Sydney”. Loom worked with an amazing creative production team in New York, successfully navigating the challenges of being on the opposite side of the planet from your client. Beyond that, client and agency alike were thrilled with the outcome.

For this project, Loom Creative founder and managing director Jason Knight directed, shot and edited the video. Having recently returned to Sydney after more than 20 years living in New York, this was a special project for Jason as it had him reconnecting with his hometown and visiting some of the exciting places the magazine highlighted in their “Australia Month” (January - in case you were wondering).

This video is an homage to Sydney and to it’s extraordinary and well deserved place as one of the worlds great cities. It takes us on a journey through several of Sydney’s most exiting spots.

We start on the northern beaches for a play in the water and then head to Darlinghurst for coffee and breakfast at René Redzepi’s favourite coffee shop in Sydney - Edition Coffee Roasters. And if you don’t already know, René is head chef of arguably the worlds greatest restaurant, Noma, and he’s decided to move to Australia for a year to open a “pop-up” in Darling Harbour that has already sold out it’s entire run (sadly only 10 weeks). He’s written about Edition and all the fun he’s having in Australia here:

Next we head over to Glebe Markets to explore all the creative arts and crafts on sale there.

From there we head back to Surry Hills to visit one of Sydney’s most amazing boutique stores - Ici Et La. Ici et là is an amazing French furniture store – but it’s more than that. Behind the roller door you will find vintage furniture, vibrant stripe cotton fabrics, linen fabrics, outdoor fabrics, zinc letters and the most iconic to the store – the deckchairs, director chairs and stools. It is one of those stores you can just get lost in. Check out there website and if you have a chance, pay them a visit. You won’t regret it.

Next we visit the Royal Botanic Garden and run into some little friends on our walk.

From the botanic Garden, we hop on the Manly Ferry at Circular Quay for the lovely ride to the Manly, where we slide ride by Manly Beach and land at Shelley Beach for a snorkel in the crystal clear water.

From there we head to the Public Dining Room at Balmoral Beach for what can only be described as food that is simply out of this world. The best Tomato salad we’ve ever tried in a delightful room right on Balmoral beach.

We spend the afternoon wandering around the rocks, and finally make our way back to Surry Hills for a meal at Porteño. Now if you don’t know Porteño, it is another of Sydney’s amazing restaurants. A truly special Argentine Churrascaria where they roast meat to perfection on an open fire pit. Quite an experience.

We end the evening sitting on north head with a world class view of the sun setting over the city.
